How to raise formal ticket money

We have some interesting survey results to share about the average cost of formal tickets in Sydney. The average price is around $165, which covers the basic entry. Most people are happy to spend that much for the experience. However, we understand it might seem like a lot for some.

To put it in perspective: Students often spend three to five times that amount on their formal outfits. And ladies tend to spend 50% more on hair, makeup, nails, and spray tans than on the ticket itself. Plus, that glamorous limo ride can cost about three times the price of the ticket.

When you look at it that way, the formal ticket, even at $165, is one of the less expensive parts of getting ready for your formal.

Now, let’s discuss how you can save up for that ticket without sacrificing your style. Here are a few ideas:

Saving with a Jar

  • Drop a $2 coin into a jar each day before school. When you get home, put any silver coins from your pocket into the jar.
  • Save 10% of each paycheck from work in the jar.
  • At the mall, skip buying two snacks per week (like juice or chips) and put the money you saved in the jar.
  • Avoid buying snacks at the movies and save that money in the jar.
  • Instead of taking the bus, walk once every five trips and put the bus fare you saved into the jar.
  • Use the home phone instead of your mobile phone and put the saved phone bill money into the jar.

Earning at Home

  • Offer to do extra chores for your parents in exchange for some money.
  • Gather items you no longer need, organise a garage sale, and earn some money.
  • Offer to wash cars, mow lawns, or tidy gardens for your neighbors – quick money in one weekend.
  • Host a movie night, asking friends to pay $5 each to attend.
  • Host a makeup or fashion party at home.
  • Get creative, make something unique, and sell it online or to friends and family.

Earning Out in the World

  • Help senior citizens with their shopping and ask for tips or coin deposits.
  • Deliver newspapers on a paper route.
  • Bake cupcakes and sell them at local fairs or market days.
  • Get a part-time job at a fast-food restaurant or supermarket, working just one shift per week.

Fundraising at School (with Permission)

  • Get fundraising kits from brands like Cadbury, Pure Gelato, Mars, or Krispy Kreme and sell treats to other students.
  • Organise a school dance with an entry fee, sharing the profits with your grade.
  • Organise a casual clothes day, charging a gold coin for each student who participates.

No matter which method you choose, earning money for your ticket is simple and won’t compromise your style too much. With one or a combination of these ideas, you might cover not just your formal ticket but also everything else on your list. Go for it!
