At Prom Night Events and all our affiliated entities, we’re all about supporting the incredible young people we have the pleasure of connecting with during our events. We’re here to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and, most importantly, safe.

To make sure we’re doing our best in this regard, we’ve been working closely with the State Government and have adopted a continually evolving set of policies. These policies are inspired by the “Working with LGBTQIA+ Young People Policy” published by the NSW Department of Communities & Justice (Youth Justice Division).

Our main goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or intersex status, feels respected and secure in our event spaces. Discrimination is not something we tolerate – not from our staff or anyone else attending our events, whether they’re guests or not. We understand that gender identity is a deeply personal matter, and it can influence how we experience our events. Here’s how we’re addressing it:

Entry Screenings
When you arrive at our security access point, you’ll find separate queues for contraband screenings. We have both male and female security officers to make sure you feel comfortable. You can choose the queue that suits you best, and rest assured, no one will physically touch you during this process.

Attire
We want you to express yourself through your attire. While we appreciate a neat and tidy “formal-style” appearance, we won’t judge your clothing based on gender. You’re free to wear what feels right for you, as long as it’s appropriate for the venue and event environment.

Rest Rooms
We won’t direct you to restrooms based on an “assumed” gender. You should use the restroom where you feel most comfortable.

Clashes of Policy
In rare cases, there might be a clash between our inclusive policies and those of a school or other organisation involved with the formal. When you’re with us, our policies of inclusiveness will always take precedence, ensuring your freedom and comfort.

We understand that discussing matters related to sexuality and gender can be sensitive. Our staff is here to support you, and they’ll use inclusive language and respect your preferences when it comes to pronouns or addressing you. Feel free to instruct or correct us as we’re keen to learn.

If you choose to discuss your sexuality, gender identity, or relationship status with us, we promise to respond positively, no matter where you are on your journey. We’ll respect your decision if you’d rather not disclose this information. And if you’ve faced prejudice or abuse, we’re here to provide the support you need. Our commitment to creating a safe space extends to preventing bullying and harassment of LGBTQIA+ young people. We have a Code of Conduct that reinforces our values of ethical behaviour, professionalism, fairness, learning, and collaboration.
